Where do we meet?
We meet at The Bridge UMC in Milan, Michigan.
Are you affiliated with The Bridge?
While we are so grateful to The Bridge UMC for allowing us to use their space, we are not directly affiliated with them. The families at Adventurers attend a wide variety of churches and are part of various denominations.
When does Adventurers meet?
Adventurers meets on Thursday afternoons starting at 11:00am for set up and first hour. We have a lunch hour from 12:30-1:30, and then 3 class hours from 1:30-5:00pm.
What does Adventurers offer families?
Adventurers offers academic, enrichment, practical, service, and relationship opportunities with other Christian families who share our values, for children, from high schoolers to babies.
What is required of participating families?
Because Adventurers is a co-op, the families involved provide many of the opportunities as we come together. Each family is expected to fulfill two roles within the co-op. These can be teaching, administrative, practical, or any other way you can think of to serve the co-op. We also expect families to sign up to help with set up and clean up.
What is the drop-in program?
The drop in option is offered to high school students whose families cannot participate in the co-op fully. There is an extra fee to take advantage of this feature. There are a limited number of spaces in the drop-in program.
What about social opportunities?
Adventurers offers opportunities for students to relate to people of all ages. We also do various activities together: potluck dinners, end of semester showcase, summer picnic and chances for families to relate to other homeschooling families and support each other in their homeschooling.
What classes are offered?
Classes at Adventurers vary from semester to semester depending on the needs of the various families involved. Typical semesters include enrichment classes such as drama, stage combat, art, outdoor cooking or wilderness survival; academic classes like biology, physics, history, and chemistry; physical education classes such as flag football, structured gym and others.
What about babies? We have a designated nursery for babies and toddlers, but you are also welcome to keep your baby with you. A lot of parents with babies spend at least part of their time helping in the nursery, but it's up to you!
How much does it cost?
There is a $125 registration fee per family for Adventurers which covers facility rental and insurance. We strive to keep class fees to a minimum, with the majority of our classes being taught by participants. Most classes have a materials fee for the semester to cover the cost of supplies. We require all of our teachers to submit to a background check, which has a separate fee.
